Emmy Night Fashion
All the Dresses We’re Still Dreaming About
By Amanda Garrigus
The Emmys kicked off the 2018 awards season with a bang, delivering all the red carpet eye candy a girl could hope for. There were huge ballgowns, like the sweeping, night-sky-inspired Christian Siriano worn by Westworld’s Angela Sarafyan, and body hugging glam like the sparkling silver Jenny Packham column worn by Samira Wiley. There were dresses that little girls’ princess dreams are made of, like the tulle-skirted Zac Posen dress worn by Joey King. As a refreshing counterpoint, we saw more red-carpet-ready pant suits than ever before. Leslie Jones managed to pull off an opalescent suit by Christian Siriano, and Evan Rachel Wood threw down with a modified tuxedo with sweeping tails by Altuzarra. The men brought their A-game too, as evidenced by Atlanta star Lakeith Stanfield’s white-jacketed Ermenegildo Zegna tux. In truth, it was hard not to love every single fashionable reveal, but we dug deep and culled our favorites of the night. See below for our top picks.
Nominee Jessica Biel took our breath away in a dreamy, strapless Ralph & Russo white gown, complete with asymmetrical skirt detail. Her easy, glamorous hair and makeup tied the look together beautifully.
Tracee Ellis Ross
This was the fashion moment of the night. Voluminous pink pillows of luxurious fabric enveloped the Black-ish star, who was nominated for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Her bold pink lips and contrasting coral pink eyeshadow were a striking compliment to the Valentino Couture dress.
Actress Vanessa Kirby, nominated for her knockout performance in The Crown, was a knockout on the red carpet in her Tom Ford bustier column dress. Her side swept blond locks, gorgeous dark brows and sparkling Chopard diamond earrings evoked Hollywood glamour at its absolute best.
Millie Bobby Brown
The Stranger Things actress took to the red carpet in a look that was at once age appropriate and the stuff of fairy tales. Her blush pink Calvin Klein by Appointment dress stood out by standing out, literally. The structured full skirt earned her all kinds of style credibility.
Rachel Brosnahan took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and also top honors for her red carpet moment. Her impeccably tailored, red ombre dress by Oscar de la Renta was fresh off the New York Fashion Week runway and a perfect retro-modern Hollywood moment for the star’s big night.
