Let Me Tell Y’all About My Sisters…
Listen here — folks always wanna ask me about the suits I wear, the shows I host, the jokes I tell. But let me tell you somethin’ that don’t get said enough… I wouldn’t be where I am today without two powerful women in my life: my big sisters, Mona and Pauline Harvey.
See, growing up in Cleveland, Ohio — man, we didn’t have a lot. We were raised by a coal miner daddy and a Sunday school teachin’ momma who loved the Lord more than anything. And in the middle of all that, I had these two older sisters who weren’t just family… they were foundations.
Now Mona? Mona is the real-deal church woman.
This woman been servin’ in her church for over 50 YEARS. Y’all hear me? Not five. Fifty. That’s a lifetime of standin’ on her feet, usherin’ folks in, handin’ out programs, prayin’ for people, bein’ a light. She didn’t ask for cameras. She didn’t ask for applause. She just did it ‘cause her heart was in it. And lemme tell you — I couldn’t be prouder.
When I was actin’ a fool out here tryin’ to figure life out — she was steady, faithful, and grounded. The kind of woman who didn’t have to say much… her walk did the talkin’.
And then there’s Pauline.
Quiet strength. Real talk, she’s more private — but don’t let that fool you. She’s just as solid. These two women helped raise me. Watched over me. Probably prayed over me more times than I even know.
I remember comin’ home, and there was always somebody holdin’ me accountable. Mona be like, “Boy, you better get your act together.” Pauline? She was just lookin’ at me like, “You know better.”
And I DID know better. Because of them.
In 2015, the city of Cleveland named a street after me — Steve Harvey Way.
That was one of the proudest moments of my life. Not because my name was on a sign… but because my family was there. Mona spoke at that event and talked about our parents, about our journey. That wasn’t just my moment — it was our moment.
I’m the face y’all see on TV… but I’m a product of those women. Their prayers. Their faith. Their discipline. Their example.
So when you see me on that Family Feud stage… when you hear me droppin’ wisdom on a morning show… just know, I didn’t do it by myself. I had two sisters behind me, liftin’ me up, coverin’ me in prayer, and never lettin’ me forget where I came from.
That’s what family does.
That’s what women like my sisters do every single day.
So this one right here? This is a thank you to Mona and Pauline. I love y’all. You are the real MVPs.
– Steve
