What Are We Leaving in 2025? A Real Talk Reset with Steve Harvey

Protect your peace. Protect your purpose.

As we close out another year, I wanna ask y’all somethin’ that might just change the whole trajectory of your life. And I ain’t askin’ this to be cute, inspirational, or trendy. No, this is grown-folk conversation. This is the kind of question that’ll make you stop, breathe, look around, and decide what you truly want for your life.

What are we leaving in 2025?

Because listen… every new blessing — every new door, opportunity, relationship, elevation — comes with requirements. And one of the biggest requirements is this:

Why We Hold On to Things That Hold Us Back

Now let me tell you somethin’ I had to learn the hard way:
Some of the weight you carry ain’t heavy because it’s important…
It’s heavy because it’s expired.

We hold on to habits, people, emotions, jobs, and fears that have already served their purpose. And we do it because it feels familiar. But familiar ain’t always faithful. Familiar ain’t always fruitful. Familiar ain’t always good for your future.

2026 needs the version of you that’s willing to let go.

1. Leave the Fear of Starting Over

Starting over ain’t failure.
Starting over is a blessing disguised as a do-over.

If something fell apart in your life — trust me — God didn’t allow it to crumble just to hurt you. He tore it down so He could rebuild it right.

2. Leave the Folks Who Don’t Clap for You

You know the type — they watch your every move but ain’t happy about none of it.
In 2025, they had access.
In 2026, they get the gate.

Protect your peace. Protect your purpose.

3. Leave Procrastination and ‘I’ll Do It Tomorrow’ Energy

Success don’t start on January 1st — success starts with a decision.
Start now.
Start small.
Start scared if you have to.
But start.

Because “later” is where too many dreams go to die.

4. Leave the Version of Yourself That Plays Small

You were not built for average.
You were not created to “blend in.”
You were designed with intention, purpose, and potential.

Stop dimming your light to make other people comfortable. Shine anyway.

5. Leave Negative Self-Talk

Talk to yourself like someone you’re responsible for taking care of.
Every time you say you’re not enough, you contradict what God already said about you.

So here’s your new script:

  • “I can.”

  • “I will.”

  • “I’m capable.”

  • “I’m built for this.”

  • “My future is bigger than my fear.”

What You Take Into 2026 Will Shape the Entire Year

Don’t drag old pain into a new season.
Don’t drag old habits into a new opportunity.
Don’t drag old thinking into a new blessing.

Do the work to release it.
Let go of what’s draining you.
Make room for what’s meant for you.

Final Question (and Think About This One Seriously):

What are YOU leaving in 2025?

Write it down.
Say it out loud.
And then walk into 2026 lighter, wiser, and ready for everything with your name on it.
