What to Wear Now

Stay fresh and give your closet a boost by adding these key pieces to your 2020 wardrobe

By Amanda Garrigus

All hail another turning of the fashion seasons. There are new trends to unearth and, therefore, new reasons to buy yourself something nice. (As if you need a reason!) Still, before you shop ’til you drop, consider exercising a modicum of restraint. After all, fashion’s new mantra is “less is more”. If we can get by with fewer pieces, we can reduce the overproduction of clothes and the resultant waste. Consider recycling a few things from your closet to make way for your new additions. Now that we’ve laid down the ground rules, let’s get to it.

The Leather Dress

The leather dress is so now. But don’t be fooled into buying something too tight or too short. The new version of this perennial staple is more sophisticated shirt dress and less bondage babe.

Chunky Boots

The combat boot is making a big comeback. Get your hands on this chunky footwear, perfect for kicking around on weekends or, depending on your situ, stomping your way through a long work week.

Crochet

Crochet dresses are stepping off the beach and onto the streets. Scoop one that comes with a simple lining or wear it with a high-waisted brief and a bandeau top.

Neon Brights

The new brights take their cue from the hues of highlighter pens. Think neon yellow, fuchsia pink, and bright green. Incorporate the electrifying colors via a t-shirt or maximize impact with a voluminous dress.

Feathers

Add some plumes to your evening or cocktail hour look, and don’t be afraid to get your feathers ruffled, they can take it.

Pleated Jeans

You heard right. The newest denim trend to hit the scene are high-waisted mom jeans, but with a twist! Well, with a pleat. Don’t question it.
